The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the trust, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
